Nothing makes my little Southern heart happier than a pretty front porch. However, military housing and rental houses typically have very small porches, if any at all. I’ve been on the hunt for narrow porch decorating ideas since we moved into our new house in Hawaii.
We’ve always had small stoops or long narrow porches at all of our rental houses. (Which is why I added a big porch to my Dream House Checklist.) I even made a post with 9 Small Porch Decorating Ideas back in 2020 when I was trying to decorate our tiny porch at our house in Texas.
Despite my initial frustration, I found that narrow porches can be functional, comfortable, and pretty! Here are the photos I used as inspiration when decorating my new porch.
Vintage Furniture
This is my current porch setup at our home on Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii. We have a narrow walkway from the parking area to the front door bordered by a hedge. Our refurbished metal chairs and bar cart work great in this space, since vintage furniture tends to be smaller than modern furniture, making it perfect for small spaces.
Interesting Art Work
There’s so much to love about this narrow porch! The beautiful plants, the black furniture with the yellow patterned cushions, and the bar setup between the seating areas are all perfection. But what really caught my eye was the big artwork hanging at the end of the porch.
Light Colors
I’m always a fan of this light blue (my antique medicine cabinet is a similar color). It really helps bring this space together and make a tiny narrow porch seem bigger and brighter.
Chandelier
I don’t know if I would have ever thought to hang a chandelier and lace curtains on the porch, but wow! It looks absolutely stunning on this small porch!
Vintage Glider
I don’t know what I love on this porch the most: the vintage glider, the star design above the light fixture, the beautiful flowers or the firewood holder. Honestly, someone went above and beyond with the details on this porch and it really shows!
Sideboard
It would have never occurred to me to put a sideboard/buffet on the porch. Not only does it look so pretty here, but it would also be useful when you had your hands full and were trying to unlock the door. My future porch might just have to have one!
Small Sectional
A small outdoor sectional could be useful for a narrow porch with an empty corner. This space looks so cozy and inviting.
Mix & Match Patterns
Using a variety of different patterns in the same black-and-white color scheme makes this narrow porch a fun and inviting place to hang out!
Green & Yellow
This yellow porch stuck with their green and yellow color scheme even down to their lemon trees! I think it’s adorable!
Woods & Whites
Perhaps it’s just the Joanna Gaines-loving-millennial in me, but I love a woods and whites color scheme. It’s so classic and timeless.
Hanging Chair
Make your narrow porch the coolest place to hang out with a hanging chair! This one fits perfectly at the end of an outdoor sofa.
Even though we currently have a narrow porch, it’s my favorite one to date because I love our refurbished vintage furniture on it!
A big front porch is on my dream house checklist, but I’m thoroughly enjoying decorating the small porches we’re given. All of these examples just prove that you don’t need a big porch to have a beautiful porch.
