My little sister lives across the country in Los Angeles. And for the first time, she is moving into a place of her own. No roommates or boyfriends or student housing. She is sooo excited and I am excited for her!
I wish that we could see her new place, but a cross-country trip just isn’t possible right now.
I still wanted to celebrate this achievement in some way, so I put together a housewarming care package for her.
Making care packages for loved ones is one of my favorite things, as you can see here, here, and here! And I didn’t want this milestone to pass by uncelebrated, even if we’re on separate coasts.
So, here’s how I made her a housewarming care package!
What To Put In a Housewarming Care Package
We filled this package with some fun things and some boring (but useful!) things and sent it on its way.
Here’s what was in it:
- essential oil diffuser
- essential oils
- bag clips
- avocado holder
- cutting boards
- gourmet salt & spices
- a cute knick-knack
- unique kitchen towel
Hope All is Good in Your New Hood!
Some other ideas of what to put in a housewarming care package are:
- a nice candle
- charcuterie board
- wine glasses
- gift card to home improvement store
- a soft throw blanket
- picture frame
- bookends
- coaster
- small pots for indoor plants
- gourmet olive oil
- tool set
I decorated the flaps of the box with scrapbook paper before filling it with goodies. And the letters were created using my Cricut.
(You can wrap the inside of the box with wrapping paper for a more put-together look too!)
Pun Ideas
The flaps of the box say “Hope all is good in your new hood” which is a saying I found on a housewarming card. But there were some other punny contenders:
- “Congrats on your new pad! You made the leap!” (lily pad/frog theme)
- “I hear you moooved!” (cow theme)
- “Pivot! Hope the new place is SOfa good!” (Friends theme)
- “You got a new place? Shut the front door!”
- “Home sweet gnome!” (gnome theme)
- “Gouda luck in your new home!” (cheese theme)
I never thought about making a housewarming care package before, but when you live so far away from family, you miss out on these milestones.
The ‘normal’ thing to do would be to just order something from Amazon and have it shipped to her new place. But I enjoy putting together these care packages and feel like they have a more personal touch.
My sister loved her mail-in surprise! And is impatiently awaiting the day when we can come see her new place!
