15 Places to Hang Garland in Your Christmas Decor
Garland is one of the easiest ways to add instant Christmas magic to your home. There are so many more places to hang it than just the mantel. Whether you love classic greenery, sparkling lights, or cozy chunky yarn garlands, the right placement can completely transform your holiday decor.
Since our PCS to Hawaii, I’ve enjoyed decorating our stairs for Christmas. So much so, that I’ve been wondering where else I can work pretty garlands into our decor.
I’ve found 15 creative places to hang garland throughout your home. Ideas that are simple, festive, and guaranteed to make your Christmas decorating feel extra special.
On the Tree
One of the most common places to hang garland is on the Christmas tree. This tree has 3 different types of garland: dried oranges/grapefruit, ribbon, and popcorn garland.
I’ve only been using one type of garland on my tree, but maybe I need to step it up!
On the Mantel
Another common place to find garland during the holidays is on the mantel. I absolutely love mantel displays, especially this one with its pink gingham bows!
In the Hallway
I wish I had thought to hang garland across the hallway. My girls would have loved a hallway full of snowflakes and twinkle lights when they were little!
On/Over the Bed
Hanging garland in the bedroom is unconventional, but it’s so festive and pretty. I might just have to try it!
On a Mirror
A lot of people have a mirror in the entryway and those people should definitely drape some garland across it. It’s so pretty!
Over a Doorway
If you have a cased opening between two rooms in your home, you should decorate it with garland during the holidays.
On the Porch Railing
When I was little, my mom would wrap our porch railing with greenery and Christmas lights. I can’t wait to have a big porch so I can do the same thing one day!
Over a Window
A couple layers of garland look so pretty in the kitchen window. I’m sure it looks even more magical framing a snowy, winter scene.
Over the Bathroom Mirror
You don’t typically think to add Christmas decor in the bathroom. But some pretty garland and bows around the mirror is pretty cute!
On the Chandelier
Out of all the places to hang garland, I don’t know that I would have thought of the chandelier or light fixture. However, it sure is pretty!
On the Range Hood
The kitchen is the heart of the home anytime, but especially during the holidays when you’re preparing big meals. So, why not decorate it?
On the Stairs
I have really enjoyed decorating our staircase for Christmas here in the Hawaii house. It’s definitely one of the things I’m going to miss when we move.
Over the Front Door
This asymmetrical garland over the front door is one of the best ones I’ve seen. It’s full and thick with so many different elements, from flowers to ornaments to bows, there’s not much else you could fit in there!
To the Light Fixture
Paper chains have made a comeback this year in Christmas decor. And I’m here for it! These chain garlands look so festive hung from the corners of the room to the light fixture in the middle.
On Furniture
I hadn’t thought to decorate big pieces of furniture with garland before. But it looks so pretty, especially on a hutch or China cabinet!
With so many beautiful ways to use garland throughout your home, decorating for Christmas becomes even more fun and creative! Whether you choose to highlight doorways, dress up your staircase, or add a festive touch to unexpected spaces, each strand brings warmth and holiday charm to your decor.
Try a few of these ideas this season and watch how even the simplest garland can make your home feel merry, magical, and ready for Christmas.
Happy decorating, friends!
