Today, on the blog, I’ve posted all the details of the Lanikai Pillbox hike 🥾

I read several blog posts and looked at several social media posts about this trail before we went.

All of them mentioned the parking difficulties…none of them mentioned the freaking rock scramble 😳

And I took 5 kids with me 😩 That would have been important to know!

So, I told you the truth that you needed to know. This hike is not ‘easy’ and I also don’t think it’s good for little kids. (These teenagers were fine…mostly tired of waiting for me to catch up 🤭) Also, I think it’s kind of scary…so many areas where you can fall to your death 🫣

The views were beautiful though 😍

Technically, we’re from a small community in the Florida Panhandle, but if you know anything about that area, Fort Rucker is only 30-ish minutes north of there across the state line in Alabama.

We’re VERY excited to finish up our last 3 years in the Army back with family and friends ❤️

I feel SO BLESSED to have lived on this beautiful island for the past 3 years.

But it was also really hard in a lot of ways.

I’m so blessed that the military covers much of the cost of moving back to the mainland.

But it’s not an easy process and they don’t cover all of the expenses 😣

Two things can be true at the same time and one doesn’t negate the other.

So, one trip we went on, I didn’t plan anything and told them that we’ll just do whatever they want when we get there. And they were mad that I didn’t plan anything!

We never did that again & they no longer complain about my plans 😅

This is the first piece of Wedgewood I found in the wild 😍

Until maybe 6 months ago, I didn’t even know what Wedgewood was. I’ve learned so much since I started thrifting glassware earlier this year. There truly is an art or science to everything 💙

We’re a whole family of readers. These clips don’t show the books in the girls’ rooms.

When people ask me how I get them to read…it started when they were little. We read to them all the time, then we listened to them read to us. I took them to the library and book stores, especially during the summer. When they asked what I was reading, I described the plot (in an age-appropriate way).

And finally, they see my husband and I reading. They see us excited to go to the bookstore/library. They see that it’s a part of normal daily life.

They can’t imagine a life without books, because they’ve never lived it.

What a blessing ❤️
