Blue Christmases are sometimes a sad reality for deployed service members. As their family, we try to help them celebrate the holidays by sending them an over-the-top Christmas care package.
These decked out boxes of love are our way of showing them that they are not forgotten – even during the busiest season of the year.
Anytime my husband is deployed, I send him themed care packages for all of the holidays that he has to miss. And Christmas is no exception!
I put together this round up of ten Christmas care packages that caught my eye on Pinterest. [Click on each picture for the link to the original pin.]
Christmas Care Package Ideas
Dear Deployment, Let Him Go!
This package is one of my girls’ favorites! They have vowed to send their daddy an Olaf package next time he is gone. Everyone that has missed a service member during the holidays has felt this way at some point! Just let him go already
The Grinch Stole Christmas and Brought It to You!
The Grinch is one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies, so this Grinch-themed package HAD to be on the list.
Side Note: If you didn’t want to take the time to cut out each individual Christmas light, you could simplify by replacing them with a strand of tinsel.
Simplicity is key with this snowman!
The quotes on it say, “If kisses were snowflakes, I’d send you a blizzard!” and “We miss you snow much!” Puns with a sweet message, complete with a box of goodies is sure to chase away some of the holiday blues.
I love this Christmas tree care package! You could make the decorations as simple or elaborate as you want and tailor them to your specific style and taste. On this box, they used scrapbook stickers for the ornaments and gifts.
All I Want for Christmas is You!
Care packages and pictures go together like cookies and milk! Pictures always add a personal touch to the package.
My husband taped up the pictures from his care packages during his hardship tour in Central America. He ended up with a wall full of pictures before he came home.
T’was the Night Before Christmas
I couldn’t forget this Christmas classic! Plus, isn’t that little mouse just the cutest?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
There’s really not enough time to send a care package for both Christmas and New Year’s. So, why not kill two birds with one stone? This package gives you the best of both worlds by combining a Christmas care package with a New Year care package!
I couldn’t leave out old St. Nic! This package would be a great project to do with the kids. They could help glue on the cotton balls for Santa’s beard and hat. And older kids could help with the glitter swirls!
Meet Me Under the Mistletoe
I love the classic simplicity of this Christmas care package. It’s a sweet reminder for your loved one to meet you under the mistletoe when they get home!
While these care packages are especially relevant for deployed service members, they can also be sent to any long-distance loved one.
I hope these Christmas care packages inspire you and give you the push you need to get one in the mail soon! My prayer is that your service member returns home safely and the holidays can be spent together again.
