Halloween, as a mom, is all about dressing up the kids! I love the idea of coordinating family costumes. You know the ones I’m talking about…those adorable families you see all over social media. Where the whole family dresses up like the Mario Bros. clan or the cast of their favorite movie.
Some people think they’re cheesy, but I love them! My husband and I don’t care much for dressing up on Halloween, but I wanted the girls to ‘be matchies’ for as long as they would allow.
We’re a single-income family, living on an enlisted soldier’s pay. So, we don’t have a huge budget for costumes and accessories. But thankfully, you don’t need a huge budget for cute coordinating Halloween costumes for sisters.
I’m not a costume designer, by a looonnnngggg shot, but I’ve been able to either buy these costumes at a reasonable price or put them together without much effort.
Check out my girls the past couple of years!
Witch and her Black Cat
What’s a witch without her black cat? My oldest picked out this witch costume one night at Wal-Mart and for my youngest I made a black tutu and attached a tail to it. Easy peasy!
Cowgirl and her Cow
What’s a cowgirl without a cute little cow to wrangle? Again, my oldest daughter chose this cowgirl costume at Wal-Mart and it wasn’t hard to find a cow costume for my youngest.
Mermaid and Pirate
My beautiful mermaid and a scalawag pirate were a hit on our trick-or-treat route! I didn’t plan this one at all. My youngest daughter was obsessed with all things pirates and her sister was equally crazy about mermaids. It couldn’t have worked out any better!
Michelangelo & Peppa
Okay…this one isn’t matching in the least, but aren’t they cute?!?! (And it fulfilled #28 on our Deployment Bucket List.)
Sadly, I think I’ve seen the last of the coordinating Halloween costumes. Now, the girls want to pick out their own costumes and let their different personalities shine!
The ‘matchies’ were fun while they lasted. There were so many others ideas that I wish I could have done!
